MUSIC LEAGUE – WEEK 1 – ROY G. BIV

(something a bit different! and i hope to continue this throughout the duration of Music League!)

i was invited by my friend Cory to take part in Music League with other music-loving friends (and many strangers, to me!)! each week there is a theme and we can pick one song via spotify as our selection. this generates a playlist of all songs contributed! then we vote on our favorites of the songs submitted (you get X number of votes to use each week as determined by the organizer of the league).

WEEK 1 THEME: ROY G. BIV – songs with a color in the title

14 participants submitted 14 songs to the themed playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/01y1YrgKvfHE9TyXAOc9iH

i wrote a poem that incorporates all of the song titles from this week. because… of course i most definitely did!!! i was so inspired by this cool Music League idea to write something even if I take some liberties with a few of the track names.

Earthly Delights

On golden green days you wake
the sky, mister, with your blue
winking: a crystal blue. Persuasion
taunts and colors the day with a wild
sea of almost-verdigris in seasons
of varying degrees. Grays, and later,
reds arouse as rouge; pink becomes

an evening. Your moon kisses
with cashmere confidence. We are
silvering with slivers of a whiter shade
of pale
hair that still gets in our mouths.
Why am I so set heaven-wise and bold-
day when my fingers could tear
your green shirt? I do know how to dig

deep earth through the brown, past hard
black flecks and into a white scream
of dust. Brown and wet, dark, light. All
give the corporeal body room to grow
and die. That beauty: black soil so ripe
it bites iron. Stray the green manalishi’s
eyes wide as wallets although they shine

like what’s hovering mid-summer. Look
down, not up, this once.
